Chomsky é um dos mais conceituados intelectuais americanos e, para além do seu trabalho como linguista, tem vindo a publicar uma série de livros onde pensa a política americana e a sua implicação no mundo. Muito a propósito, surge este “Iraque – Assalto ao Médio Oriente”, onde reúne uma série de conferências e entrevistas em que analisa a situação actual, que leva os americanos à guerra com o Iraque. Chomsky sempre achou Saddam um ditador detestável, mas pergunta-se por que o apoiaram os EU, fornecendo-lhe inclusivamente tecnologia militar para fabricar as armas que agora o obrigaram a destruir. Nessa altura, o Iraque era um parceiro de negócios dos EU, que “controlavam” o seu petróleo, mas hoje em dia são a França e a Rússia que têm esse domínio (daí também ser mais fácil perceber a posição que tomaram os dois países).
